The Chinese language uses characters each with their own meaning rather than an alphabet and written Chinese takes two forms, namely Simplified and Traditional. Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan use Traditional Chinese whereas the rest of China generally uses the Simplified characters.

The language can be further broken down into Mandarin and Cantonese, both with pronunciation dependent word meanings, but the latter is spoken in Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong province whilst Mandarin is China’s main language and the most widely used.

 

So, when you ask for an English to Chinese translation, please specify whether Mandarin or Cantonese is required and confirm you want Simplified Chinese.
