Translations2u provides the following types of proofreading and editing service:

  • for texts that have been written in English who may or may not be native speakers of that language and do not have an independent proofreader

Many professionals have excellent native and other language skills, however, it is usually obvious when something hasn’t been written by a native speaker and a native speaker will detect them.

  • for translations performed by third parties who require the assistance of a professional editing service and/or proofreader

When you have documents translated by a non-native speaker or an inexperienced translator, you need strong editing and proofreading skills coupled with native speaker proficiency.

When such work is requested of us, the two functions are normally combined as one service to provide an optimal finished product for our clients. The task is best carried out by qualified and experienced individuals with excellent native and foreign language skills. Knowledge of other language structures is essential particularly when a text has been written by a non-native English speaker.

Among issues we look for are:

•             Wrong/missing verbs, nouns, adjectives, pronouns, prepositions, tenses etc.

•             Wrong noun/adjective/verb correlations etc.

•             Misused terminology.

•             Confused sentence structure.

•             Punctuation errors.

•             Misunderstood concepts/popular expressions.

What is proofreading and editing in translation?

You may wonder why editing and proofreading are necessary when you have ordered a professional translation. A serious, meticulous translator will also be an excellent proofreader and editor and will never deliver a translation without carefully checking what she or he has written. However, our translators are human, not machines, and can always miss something, albeit minor when working on a lengthy or complex translation.
